Welcome to the Marvelous City

You wake up from a deep sleep, to soft light streaming through a window. Your body is rested. Your mind is at ease. For a moment, there's a calm laying over you, almost unnatural, as if you're not really conscious at all. But then in an instant it fades, leaving you fully aware of your surroundings. You're in a soft bed, in a fully outfitted bedroom that suits you in every way. In fact, there are familiar and comforting items there, as if you've been settled for quite some time. Outside the weather is perfect, the sun (or moon) clearly in view, the gentle buzz of daily life on the air.

On a table nearby is what appears to be a compact in the shape of a stylized five-petaled flower, and above it floats a screen, hovering in the air as if by magic. The screen plays a logo reading "Project Marvelous", but as soon as you look at it it changes to greet you cheerfully in neat, professional type:
"Welcome to the Marvelous City. You've been chosen to participate in a trial run of the universe's most perfect place. All your wishes are at your fingertips. Every comfort, every pleasure, every joy can be found in our state-of-the-art smart city. This Dewdrop is your connection to a lively community of fellow testers, amongst which you might just find your new best friend, or even the love of your life. Just step out the door and you'll see: everything is Marvelous here."

Project Marvelous is a panfandom text-based role-playing game in the horror genre. Characters are brought to the Marvelous City, an ideal smart city designed to provide an ideal quality of life. According to Marvelous Corporation, characters are there to test the amenities and provide feedback to make the city even better. Unfortunately, life in the city isn’t quite as advertised. Frequent attacks by an enemy referred to as the Notoria result in outbreaks of monsters and mysterious maladies. Horrors both physical and mental frequently interrupt the city’s idyllic daily life, resulting in frequent injuries, death, and experiences of body horror and mental corruption -- but it’s fine. This place is marvelous, isn’t it?
