App FAQ
••••• App FAQ |
• What should I consider before applying? Project Marvelous is a horror game with occasional sexual elements. There will be a lot of dark content in events, and characters will change over time due to the corruption mechanic. We encourage both teamwork and PVP, and plots may require players to interact with strangers. We require in-journal HMDs and discourage constant opting out of events as well. The mods will not change the tone of the game, so we suggest refraining from apping if you think you’ll be upset by violent content or if you find it stressful to communicate directly with other players you may not know. Additionally, the game is meant to be on the plotty side. There are mysteries, and you won't get all the answers on day 1. Please be willing to let the plot unfold as we go along. Characters who figure it all out immediately in canon won't be able to do that here, so consider whether those limits will be fun for you before choosing your character. We'll never reject a character for "not fitting the tone", but we do want to make sure no one is blindsided by game content. Not every game is suited for every player or character, and that’s okay! • When are apps open? Reserves are always open from 12:00am CST on 17th - 11:59pm CST on the 19th of the month. Apps are open 12:00am CST on the 20th - 11:59pm CST on the 25th. We'll send responses out on the 26th. If you don't receive your response by 11:59pm CST on the 26th, please contact the mods. • Is there a TDM? The mods will post a new TDM every month on the 10th. TDM threads can be used for app samples, but not for AC. • Who can I app? We accept all canon characters, canon AUs, and OCs. By "canon AU" we mean an alternate version of the character that exists in canon, like characters from comics AU storylines or Kingdom Hearts versions of Final Fantasy characters. As long as they are separate characters within canon, multiple versions of one character can be apped at the same time. CRAUs are not allowed. Fandom OCs are allowed, but must have no relation to existing characters. You can make an original pokemon trainer, but they can’t be involved in the plots of any existing game. You can app your MMO character, but you can’t app them as the protagonist. This applies to tabletop characters as well. As long as your fandom OC doesn’t obligate any NPCs to know them, and follows the rules of their canon, we’ll probably allow it, but we reserve the right to make that call on a case-by-case basis. With regards to malleable game protagonists, we'll allow them as long as they have a consistent personality/identity in their canon. A completely custom protagonist (as in the previously mentioned MMO characters) is not allowed, but one with a set personality and background but dialogue/story choices is. We'll look at this on a case-by-case basis, but as a rule if the protag has a canon name and identity they'll likely be allowed. • Can I app two characters from the same canon? No. In order to avoid too much CR crossover and leave room for other players, we do not allow any one player to have multiple characters from a canon. • Can I reapp a character I’ve previously played? Yes you can! Just submit your app like normal (you can copy & paste your old one if you like). If you reapp, as long as no one else has played the character in your absence, your character will wander out of the woods as if they’d been on hiatus. When they get back their stuff is mysteriously in their new house, and their m-net account is reactivated. Since they were in the woods though, they’ll have all the same corruption effects as a very long hiatus. If someone else has played the character since your last drop, you’ll have to start them over fresh. • Can I app a dead character? Yes you may. Characters who were dead in canon can be apped from the moment of their deaths, or from the afterlife if that’s shown in canon. They’ll be healed of their injuries and fully alive in game, unless they were shown in canon as a zombie/ghost/etc, in which case we’ll leave whether to revive them up to you. • What if my character is sick/disabled/substance dependent? If your character is disabled or chronically ill, those ailments will remain on entry. Only death and immediate traumatic injury are fixed. They are welcome to get treated at the hospital if you like, but aren't obligated to. If they need a certain substance/item to live, that will be included in their usual supplies. If you would like your character to be cured of this dependence, they can be cured at the hospital, but it'll count as major medical treatment, wrt corruption. • Do I have to humanize my nonhuman characters? Nope! Animal characters, robots, etc, can retain their usual forms. That said please let the mods know in your app if your character is particularly huge, small, or otherwise in need of accommodations in order to use the network or get around the city. If your inhuman character’s form is inconvenient to play with, you can choose to humanize them, but let the mods know you’re doing so and how you’re doing it in the app. Changing a character’s form without telling the mods may result in a warning. • How long does a canon have to be out before I can app from it? New canon characters are appable one month after the release date. If you're playing a very new character, spoiler warnings are polite, but won't be mod-enforced. • Can I app from a foreign language canon? The game operates in English, so your canon must have a readily available English translation. Fan translations are fine, but they must be easy to find and as complete as possible. If you’re apping from a canon that is likely to have an official English translation available in the next 3 months, please wait til the localized version comes out. • Can I app a character with very little canon? You can, but the mods will judge this on a case-by-case basis. If the character has enough to reasonably extrapolate from they’re fine, even if they don’t have much screen time. However, if they’d require extensive headcanon that involves castmates, we may reject the app. You can always contact us ahead of time if you’re not sure the character you want to app is acceptable. • Does my character get to bring their items? They sure do! Anything the character might have had on/near them at the time they were brought into the game will still be there when they wake up. This includes vehicles and weapons. Houses are also outfitted with everything a character would want, and that includes items from home. We only ask that you let us know in your app if you’re bringing something that’s particularly huge or that would have an impact on the setting. The only things we won’t allow at all are items that would break the game in some way. • What about pets/familiars? In general, pets are welcome to come along. We don’t put limits on the number/type of pets your character can have, but we do ask that everyone be reasonable with this. Bring a full party of pokemon, but don’t bring every pokemon in the franchise at once. Familiars/possessing entities/etc with their own personality are also allowed. While we understand there are cases where these characters might actually be apped separately, we want to err on the side of not cutting down anyone’s abilities or items more than necessary. We do however reserve the right to step in if we feel the definition of a familiar vs a separate character is being stretched farther than is fair. • Are powers nerfed? Not generally. You can bring powers and powered items, and abilities locked by location or a connection to a deity, etc, will work in the city. The only powers we expect you to tone down are those that would break the game. This means no time travel, future sight, travelling through dimensions, etc. You don’t have to totally get rid of these powers, but you do need to scale them back so they don’t allow characters to leave the setting, spoil the plot, or otherwise trump the major game mechanics. If your character has a revival, regenaration, or general invulnerability power, they can remain. Character who regenerate or revive themselves will experience corruption when they do, though it may be at a slower rate than going to the hospital, at your discretion. For totally invulnerable characters, you'll have the opportunity to play with the corruption mechanic via events and the woods, so you won't be left out! • I'm ready to app! Great! Head over to the reserves page if you'd like to reserve, or applications page to grab the form and submit your app. |
